RE
INTENT: With RE we have faith, hope and love.
INTENT STATEMENT:
At Kidgate Primary Academy we are guided by the Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus for RE (2018). The Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus for Re aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Follow a curriculum based on pupils understanding of faith in modern Britain today and within our Lincolnshire Region
- Have a curriculum planned to ensure breadth, balance and continuity so children build on prior knowledge using the 4 key Areas – God, Being Human, Life Journeys and Community
- Develop tolerance, understanding and greater knowledge of RE within the multi faith society we live in today.
- Have the opportunity to study Christianity alongside Islam in Key Stage 1 and 2 and to study Christianity alongside Islam and Hinduism in Key stage 2
- Have the opportunity to compare and contrast other world religions alongside these including Judaism, Buddhism and Sikhism
- Have the opportunity to challenge, question and develop their RE skills so knowledge is not just content based.
IMPLEMENTATION: As a school, we maintain strong links to the Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus to ensure all aspects, knowledge and skills of RE are being taught across all year groups. We use progression grids and the 4 key concepts from The Agreed Syllabus – God, Being Human, Life Journeys and Community to ensure there is clear skills, knowledge and vocabulary progression throughout school. Our curriculum is taught according to Statutory requirements - 1 hour KS2 and 45 minutes KS1 . We follow the long term plan suggested by Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus so that all 4 key concepts are covered in each concept. At KS1 Children will study Christianity and Islam in depth alongside other religions to compare and contrast .At KS2 Children study Christianity, Hinduism and Islam comparing these with the 3 other World Faith. We use RE artefacts, visitor and visits where possible to excite and intrigue our children to find out more about evens, festivals and World Faiths. We aim to give our children as much understanding as possible about Religion and Faith in our Multicultural society to enable them to be considerate and thoughtful individuals with respect and tolerance for all. By the end of Year 6, children will have a sound understanding of the 3 main religions in the United Kingdom Christianity, Islam and Hinduism alongside the 3 other main faiths Sikhism, Judaism and Buddhism. They can draw comparisons and make connections between different Faiths and their own lives. Interlinked alongside this core knowledge the children will have the opportunity to challenge, question and develop their RE skills .

IMPACT: The impact and measure of this is to ensure that children at our school are equipped to understand Faith in Modern Britain today – to be able to understand how the curriculum builds on previous learning so they will make meaningful links between each key concept. The children at Kidgate through our RE curriculum will be respectful of Faith in our modern day Britain and be able to question and explain their learning in context. |
