PSHE

INTENT: With PSHE, we find the rainbow inside every child.

INTENT STATEMENT:

At Kidgate, our PSHE curriculum is driven by wellbeing. Wellbeing defined as everything that keeps us happy and healthy. We intend for our children to leave our school with the tools, skillset and knowledge to practise lifelong wellbeing in order for them to thrive in the next step of their journey through life. We recognise the integral role we play in our children’s lives and we feel passionate towards shaping well rounded children of our future. We believe that for every child to learn and to thrive in our school and in our community, we must primarily teach children about the many different aspects of wellbeing and how to look after each of these. These aspects include physical and sensory wellbeing, social wellbeing, mental and emotional wellbeing, environmental wellbeing, economic wellbeing and spiritual wellbeing. By doing so, we intend to help our children to understand who they are, we inspire them to have aspirations and we guide them to find their own uniqueness and celebrate their differences. We teach our children that to feel the warmth of the sunny days, they must learn to dance in the rain and handle the storms. By doing so, with the care and nurture of our dedicated team, they will find their rainbow.

IMPLEMENTATION:

At Kidgate, we teach PSHE using The Story Project. This is a mindful approach to PSHE that focuses on the experiences of fictional characters in age related stories so that children are able to explore complex issues in a safe and contained framework. The Story Project covers all statutory requirements for PSHE, RSHE and recommended emotional literacy. The carefully handpicked stories ensure that our children receive a diverse and inclusive education, showcasing a diverse range of characters and role models. Our children develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives today, tomorrow and in the future discretely through stories. This method of teaching allows for children to understand the character’s thoughts and feelings before reflecting on how this may link to their own experiences. It helps to put complex ideas into a real life context providing an opportunity for children to resonate with these. By learning about the tools and strategies to support the character in the story, they in turn, learn how they can help themselves. This prepares our children for the challenges, responsibilities and opportunities that they will experience growing up and in turn, will enable them to thrive.

IMPACT:

The impact and measure of our PSHE curriculum is to ensure that children leave Kidgate equipped with the skills and knowledge to manage all areas of wellbeing and they are able to apply these tools to everyday experiences. Our children of Kidgate will be kind, honest and thoughtful members of society. They will be resilient and aspirational and they will understand their rights and responsibilities within their school, their home, their community and the wider society. They will have an appreciation of their position in a diverse, multicultural society and they will be proud of who they have become.
