‘Growing Kind Hearts and Curious Minds’

Governing Body

Welcome from the Chair of Governors, Dr Matt Dunn

Welcome to our website. I am delighted to serve as Chair of the Board of Governors, alongside my experienced colleagues, including Vice-Chairs, Melissa Hull and Andrew Wright. Together we aim to ensure that Kidgate Primary Academy delivers the very best education and preparation for life for the children in our care.

Our mission is centred around ‘growing kind hearts and curious minds’. As an experienced educator, I firmly believe that these factors are fundamental in nurturing the amazing children of our Kidgate community. First and foremost, to be kind and respectful in everything we do is a core value for us all. Whether governors, staff, parents or the wider community, how we model these behaviours to our children and show them how to make good choices is so important for their futures. Having worked in schools for most of my career, and now in the university sector, I firmly believe that promoting a love of learning and a curious mind is a key life skill and philosophy for success that will stand our children in good stead as they move through their life journeys. We can certainly impart knowledge and check understanding, but the child that thirsts for more is destined to be successful in education and beyond.

Our vision provides a metaphorical picture of what this journey looks like for our children: ‘From tiny seeds, unique apples are nurtured and blossom into an orchard where all tree branches reach high to hold fruits of knowledge’. Alongside our mission to grow curious minds, the uniqueness of our children is also of utmost importance. Every child is different and the range of opportunities we offer to them will enable them to find their passions, their strengths, their futures, as individuals who can make a significant impact on their community, wherever that may be.

Whatever the reason for your visit here today, I trust that you find the information and inspiration you seek.
