Welcome to Reception Year

Welcome to the Reception Year page.

Our teachers are Mrs Gallop and Miss Thorne. Miss Barber, Ms Hallion, Mrs Brady and Mr Fieldsend help us to learn too.

Woodside Wildlife and Falconry Centre

After a wonderful school year, we spent the day together at Woodside Wildlife and Falconry Centre. Sunshine, sun cream and smiles. Smashing!

Oh I do like to be beside the sea side......

Our recent explorations have taken us to the seaside where we have investigated this diverse and exciting environment.

The Lighthouse Keeper

The Lighthouse Keeper, Mr Grinling, who just happened to be holidaying in Mablethorpe, popped in to visit us. We were able to share our learning with him and ask him questions. He was delighted to hear that we were trying to help him solve his lunch box problem, through our design and technology investigations.

Reflective Learning

Last term we learned all about the life cycles of plants and animals.

Now we have the knowledge of a caterpillars life cycle it is amazing to watch the changes before our eyes.

Meet our guests......

Learning through play

Our bakery has been a huge success, helping us learn all about money and the different coins we use. The cakes were created during the half term holiday by the children and their parents. They certainly rose to the calorie free challenge. Simply scrumptious!

Science Afternoons

On Monday 11th April and Wednesday 13th April Reception took part in a science afternoon. We did lots of mini practical experiments to get messy and start discussions. We planted some slices of tomato to link with our new topic; made bubble patterns on paper using straws; made parachutes to drop our small world figures off the clamber stack and made fizzy colours in a "tuff spot"!  We hope the grown ups enjoyed getting messy as much as the children did.

Beep Beep Day!

On Tuesday 8th March we had a visit from our local PCSOs for Beep Beep Day and they taught the children all about road safety. We did fun activities inside and outside which showed us how to be safe when crossing the road. Always remember 'We hold hands!'

World Book Day!

Picture 1 We visited our impressive new Library.
Picture 2 We read some of our favourite books.

Picture 5 We enjoyed and shared some fantastic stories.

Last week, the children had a fantastic time learning how to balance in different ways...including on balance bikes!  They had a wonderful time and really wowed the instructors with their 'can do' attitude to learning.  Great work, Reception!

Spring into Space!

In Reception, we have enjoyed a great Spring Term so far; discovering all about galaxies far, far away...

Inspired by the book "Aliens Love Underpants", by Claire Freedman, our learning went into hyper-drive!

We even had a visitor from outer space!

During some of our literacy sessions, the children's imaginative ideas for how to catch a star shone.

Christmas Nativity Fun!

Thank you to all the parents who attended the two performances of our Christmas Nativity.  The children learnt all the words to their songs and speaking parts in only a few days.  Fantastic work, Reception!

Christmas Enterprise!

The children thoroughly enjoyed selling the items they have been busy making.  We sold lots of items; with the help of some very ambitious and friendly shopkeepers!  A big thank you to everyone who came to support!

Our grown-ups joined us for a fun afternoon and we all had a great time!
During these first few weeks at school we have been busy making new friends and getting to know the routines of the school day. Most of all, we have been having great fun!

We have been enjoying stories by Julia Donaldson.
